World Accreditation Day - 9 June 2024
Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future

As the Turkish Accreditation Agency, we are celebrating World Accreditation Day, which has made significant contributions to the development and dissemination of the global language of quality and trust, with the theme of "Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future".

This special day is being celebrated for the seventeenth time around the world on June 9th, and we aim to draw attention to the importance of accreditation today and its effects on shaping our future.

At TÜRKAK, the sole national accreditation body in our country, we continue to provide added value with the expert, impartial, ethical and competent structure we have built since the day we took office. With our staff of over 200 personnel and over 1600 assessors/technical experts, which we have formed based on merit, we work like bees, regardless of summer or winter, and do our best to advance our country's quality infrastructure and leave a good legacy for future generations.

TODAY'S RISING CONCEPT: Accreditation

Today's rising concept of "Accreditation" supports innovative approaches and the concept of "continuous improvement", highlighting sustainability and ethical values. By creating a more transparent and accountable world, this system, which allows us to look to the future with confidence, plays a critical role in building a more just and sustainable future.

In today’s world where we feel the effects of digital transformation, exciting developments continue to occur. In this period where everything from banking to education, from shopping to business processes is being moved to the digital environment, technology is taking over the reins and artificial intelligence is increasingly entering our lives, some risks may also arise. Accreditation, which offers a world of trust in every aspect of our lives, from medical devices to autonomous vehicles, helps institutions adapt to digital transformation and new technologies with confidence.

TÜRKAK TAKES ITS PLACE IN THE DIGITAL WORLD WITH “ASSIST”

Accreditation also provides institutions with the opportunity to optimize waste management, adopt the concept of recycling and circular economy principles. In this respect, it contributes to the protection of natural resources and a sustainable future. As TÜRKAK, we also attach great importance to digitalization efforts in order to protect our resources and leave a beautiful legacy for future generations. We have ensured that this intention has a concrete response by launching our ASİST, Accreditation Process Operating System portal, and with intensive effort, we have adapted TÜRKAK to the digital transformation required by the age. We continue our determined efforts to digitalize all our processes with our “zero paper system”, which is also appreciated and followed with interest by our international stakeholders. At TÜRKAK, accreditation works and transactions proceed through our ASİST Digital System by reducing paper use to zero from application to certificate, reducing times and costs.

NEW AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES ARE BEING ACCREDITED

As we prepare ourselves for the future with digitalization efforts, we also closely follow new areas. We continue to have multilateral/mutual recognition agreements with EA, IAF and ILAC in all areas we operate. Our activities in the AS9100 standard series, which is a sub-scope of the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), and the ISO/IEC 17029 standard, which we had within the scope of EA 2 years ago, were also included in the IAF Multilateral Recognition Agreement in the first quarter of 2024. Thus, as TÜRKAK, we have taken steps for a better future by assuming a leading role in issues such as space technologies, defense industry, combating the climate crisis and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, we have started to provide certification services in the field of Information Technologies in the ISO/IEC 27701 Personal Data and Information Privacy Management System, ISO/IEC 20000-1 Information Technologies Service Management System and ISO/IEC 17021-1 standard within the scope of Aviation, Space and Defense Quality Management Systems (AS 9100 Series) as well as accreditation services in the BRCGS-Food Safety Global Standard and TS EN ISO 20387 Biobank field.

In addition to all these, our Institution closely follows the European Union's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and its work in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security.

THE ROAD TO NET ZERO AND THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

The solution to fossil fuels, one of the most important common problems of our world today, is based on the introduction of environmentally friendly and more efficient technologies. In addition, the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions, combating the global climate crisis and achieving the net zero target are the most important topics of our day. As TÜRKAK, we have been providing accreditation for a long time in these very important issues within the scope of the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification legislation prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change on the basis of EU legislation. In this way, both our industrialists can easily move their products abroad and contribute to our country's National Intent Declaration.

ACCREDITATION: A WORLD FULL OF TRUST

Aware of the importance of accreditation for a world full of trust, we do our best to get the maximum benefit from new technologies, ensure the ethical use of artificial intelligence, and support sustainable activities by encouraging diversity and participation. As in the past, we are determined to take the necessary steps to look to the future with confidence by carefully analyzing current developments, potential threats and the needs that must be met in the near future and in the long term as TÜRKAK, as we have done so.

HAPPY WORLD ACCREDITATION DAY

Aware of the importance of accreditation activities in building a safer and more livable future, on behalf of the TÜRKAK family, I congratulate all our assessors and technical experts, employees of accredited conformity assessment bodies, all our stakeholders within our international associations ILAC, IAF and EA, and all my colleagues on June 9 World Accreditation Day.
