TÜRKAK Ready to Provide Accreditation Services under PEFC Forest Certification

Supporting sustainable forest management—which is essential for climate balance, biodiversity conservation, and healthy living TÜRKAK has started accepting accreditation applications under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Sustainable forestry not only meets today's needs but also ensures the rights of future generations and increases forest resilience against climate change. It also includes preventive measures against major threats to forests today, such as wildfires, pests, and invasive species.

The PEFC National Standard for Sustainable Forest Management in the Republic of Turkey (PEFC-TR), developed by PEFC Turkey (SOYDER), has been approved by PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).

In preparation for the accreditation activities under the PEFC scheme, TÜRKAK organized technical training sessions for its assessors to strengthen the qualifications of personnel to be assigned in this field. The training covered subjects such as PEFC criteria, the structure of the sustainable forest management system, and audit methodology in detail.

While enhancing national technical capacity in this area, TÜRKAK will also ensure that the assessment processes are carried out in full compliance with international requirements.

On the other hand, the PEFC Chain of Custody (PEFC CoC) program, developed by PEFC, is a system that provides independent and verified assurance that certified forest-based materials in a product originate from sustainably managed forests.

TÜRKAK will carry out its accreditation activities in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17021-1 standard for the Turkish Sustainable Forest Management System, and ISO/IEC 17065 for the PEFC CoC program.
